NADIA AVERY

Nadia Avery was born and raised in Queens, New York. She started dancing at a local studio at the age of 4, taking ballet and tap. At seven, she enrolled in the Ailey School where she was exposed to many different styles and dance techniques such as Horton, West African, Flamenco, Character Dance, and Graham. Continuing her training at Ailey through high school, Nadia discovered her love and passion for ballet and began studying at The French Academie of Ballet full time in addition to going to Ailey. Nadia went on to study classical ballet at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts for four years, graduating in May 2024. While there, she had the wonderful opportunity of training under exceptional teachers such as Laura Martin, Jennet Zerbe, Angelina Sansone, Kira Blazek-Ziaii, and Abby Yager to name a few. In addition to the amazing training she received, Nadia was also able to perform in memorable repertoire, such as Napoli, the Nutcracker, and George Balanchine’s Serenade. In her last year at UNCSA, Nadia along with six of her classmates were chosen to go to the Dance Theatre of Harlem to learn and perform their version of the Firebird, in addition to taking company classes with them. She performed the soloist role of the Princess of Unreal Beauty at UNCSA’s Spring Dance concert, with that being the first of many collaborations Dance Theatre of Harlem will have with UNCSA. Nadia is very excited to join Ballet Hartford as a trainee this season and can’t wait to see what this new chapter brings!
