Anna Laghezza
FACULTY
Anna Laghezza was born in Kyoto, Japan, grew up in New York City, and trained on full scholarship at The School of American Ballet. Her teachers at SAB included Antonina Tumkovsky, Helene Dudin, Violette Verdy, Karin von Aroldingen, Richard Rapp, Elise Reiman, Suki Shorer, Kay Mazzo, and Stanley Williams. As a student she was invited to perform with New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Royal Danish Ballet, and London Festival Ballet. After SAB, Anna joined Miami City Ballet, where she performed many of the works of George Balanchine. She went on to dance with James Sewell Ballet, Minnesota Dance Theatre, The Metropolitan Opera Ballet, Ballet NY, and Lar Lubovitch Dance Company and performed principal roles in works by Antony Tudor, Frederick Ashton, and Petipa, among others. Anna has worked with Mark Morris, Christopher Wheeldon, Lar Lubovitch, Lynne Taylor-Corbett, Hope Boykin, Rebecca Kelly and Dwight Rhoden. Anna was also in the cast of The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway and the National Tour, and has performed in regional productions of The King and I, Wonderful Town, Song of Norway, and The Merry Widow. Additionally, Anna has staged Lar Lubovitch's choreography on American Ballet Theatre and Augusta Ballet.
In addition to attending SAB, Anna trained with Gabriela Darvash, Kaleria Fedicheva, David Howard, Nancy Bielski, and Kim Abel. She also completed the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet teacher training. As a ballet teacher, Anna has taught at the Rye Ballet Conservatory under the directorship of Lynne Stetson, Celeste Morningstar, and Ashlee Stewart. She has also taught at Broadway Dance Center, Dance New Amsterdam, Minnesota Dance Theatre School, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and Studio Maestro (now Manhattan Youth Ballet), Anna recently served as company Repetiteur and Rehearsal Coach for Ballet Theatre Company, staging variations from Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, and Swan Lake and was also on faculty at the School of BTC. She continues to guest teach at the Rye Ballet Conservatory and is excited to be working with the dancers at Ballet Hartford.
